New Tri-Agency OA Policy for Publications Requirements
All research funded by Canada's federal government granting agency as of January 1, 2027 will be subject to the new Tri Agency Open Access Policy for Publications.
Key changes from the previous policy include:
- Articles must be deposited in a Canadian repository (like Memorial’s Research Repository) at the time of publication with no embargo. Publication in an Open Access journal is not sufficient to meet this requirement.
- Authors are expected to retain sufficient rights to comply with the policy and apply an open license, with CC BY encouraged.
- Authors must inform publishers of their obligations and rights when submitting for publication.
- Authors must include a funding acknowledgement in all research outputs
If you have questions, please reach out to your subject librarian, your library, or Dr. Kathryn Rose (kathrynr@mun.ca). The Tri Agencies have posted a Frequently Asked Questions with explanations.
