Archives and Special Collections
Archives and Special Collections provides an adaptable service model that offers one-on-one individualized help and material retrieval for all users. We have an accessible Service Desk and our Reading Room has moveable height-adjustable tables and wide range of chair options to accommodate different physical needs.
We collect and preserve unique resources related to the province’s accessibility history including the History of Disability Rights Newfoundland and Labrador. This important and collaborative archival project includes interviews and transcriptions as well as research materials accessible online through our Digital Archive Initiative.
Archives and Special Collections prioritizes research and access and is committed to providing equitable services for all. For use of assistive technology with our materials, we work closely with The Commons to accommodate any accessibility needs.
Digital Archives Initiative
From books and maps to photographs, periodicals, newspapers, video and audio, the Digital Archives Initiative hosts a variety of collections that document Newfoundland and Labrador's history and culture. Built with an eye for accessibility and tested with web accessibility evaluation tools, it features OCR (Optical Character Recognition) text in scanned documents and images. Digital delivery of wide-ranging Newfoundland and Labrador information sources supports accessibility.
